It's a critical time for the world. We are the first generation to be faced with the challenge to preserve life on this planet.
Reducing our emissions is not about feeling 'less guilty' about our impact on the environment. We have a responsibility to look beyond today, to the effects of climate change on the Earth's communities and ecosystems in 20 years and beyond.
To stabilise the Earth's climate, scientists urge that we reduce our per capita emissions by 60-80% by 2050. This is possible to achieve, but it will take concerted action and will include substantial growth of renewable energy sources for the future.
We have changes and adaptations to make within Australia — and we have the capacity to lead other countries. As individual consumers, voters, investors and professionals, the flow-on effects of our decisions can carry great influence.
Don't underestimate the power of the individual to bring about changes beyond what you'd imagined were possible.
